Stretching Out Shoes

Monday, August 22nd, 2011

The other day I bought a pair of shoes that were a size 10. I usually wear a 10 ½. Walking around the store felt fine, but after wearing them to work my toes started to hurt. Feeling like I was about to waste $14, I went online to find a solution. I tried stuffing newspaper into the toe but this did not work at all. As it turns out you can:

  1. Fill a freezer bag with water.
  2. Push it into the toe of the shoe.
  3. Place something hard between the bag and the heel of the shoe. (Prevents the bag from squeezing out as it freezes.)
  4. Stick shoes in the freezer for a few hours.
  5. Repeat as necessary.

And voila, the shoes get stretched out.

Alternatives to TV

Wednesday, August 17th, 2011

Watching television without a DVR is very frustrating. I can’t believe I grew up without the ability to pause, rewind, or fast forward TV. I recently signed up for Verizon FiOS’ TV and internet package and my bill is almost $100. Adding a DVR would put it over $100. This is outrageous to me since I only watch three channels (PBS, Comedy Central, and Science). Verizon does not offer channels a la cart so I started looking for alternatives. This post includes my findings on alternatives to normal cable offerings.

Buying an LED TV

Monday, July 18th, 2011

I signed up for Verizon FiOS TV service but the HDMI output on the cable box would not display on my computer monitor via DVI adapter. I went to Best Buy to purchase a new TV because I have a credit card through them and didn’t want to open another line of credit through Newegg or Amazon. This article goes over the process I went through to narrow down the selection of LED TVs.

How to Buy a Mattress

Saturday, July 16th, 2011

I recently moved out of a furnished studio into a 1-bedroom. The only downside to moving was: I have no furniture. I found a few links related to finding a good mattress and would like to add my experiences to what is available elsewhere.
